About Us IMPROVING LADINO WHITE CLOVER SEED YIELD THROUGH BREEDING AND MANAGEMENT
J. A. García, N. Barú and R. Vernazza INIA La Estanzuela, Colonia, Uruguay.
A breeding program carried out on ladino white clover increased seed yield by 63% through a higher inflorescence production. The extended flowering period of ladino types makes possible to have two seed harvest per season. Under irrigation, two seed harvest were obtained with yields of about 300 kg.ha-1 in each one, representing an increment of 35% over the unirrigated crop. The effect of irrigation was to increase the flower number in the first harvest and the yield per floret in the second harvest.
